SUN Announces New MMA Event "Battle of the Shield" Featuring Police Officers vs. Fire Fighters

DALLAS, TX--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 1, 2008 -- SUN Sports & Entertainment, Inc. (Other OTC:SUNR.PK - News) announced today a new Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Event titled "Battle of the Shield" (www.battleoftheshield.com) featuring Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, (DFW) Police Officers vs. (DFW) Fire Fighters to benefit the 501-C3 Charity, "Fallen Heroes Family Support Fund."
The MMA Charity Event will feature active duty members of Police and Fire Departments who will be fighting as amateurs in the inaugural "Battle of the Shield." Police Officers and Fire Fighters have met before in Boxing and Hockey, but this is the first time they will collide in Mixed Martial Arts, "the fastest-growing sport in the world." Craig Ferguson, a Murphy, Texas Fire Fighter and Charity representative, stated, "We've had so much interest from department personnel in doing an MMA event and I'm very excited to see it come together, especially for raising money for such a great cause."

"Battle of the Shield" is scheduled to take place at the NOKIA Theatre (www.nokiatheatredfw.com) in Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday, October 11, 2008, and will feature over 10 amateur MMA bouts. Combatants will train in area MMA gyms and through seminars. Fighters will compete by skill level, weight, age and height to make for the most competitive matchups.

Laura Carman, Director of "Fallen Heroes Family Support Fund," said, "This is a fund that was created in 2005 to support the families of Texas Fire Fighters who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. We support grief counseling, college scholarships and immediate bill paying for the families. A recent feature story in The Wall Street Journal (May 23, 2008) titled "Beat Cops" even brought attention to the fact that many Police Officers compete in MMA on the pro level. UFC icon "Big" John McCarthy, a longtime UFC referee, recently retired from serving as defense-tactics instructor for the LAPD. Police Departments are training their ranks in close-quarter combat and submission styles like Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) to combat crime, boost morale and cut down on use of weapons. Many Fire Fighters and Police Officers also train in MMA and BJJ as well, as evidenced by Craig Ferguson, who has trained for over three years in BJJ.
